“A diminutive woman high collar librarian style, big glasses and a bigger guitar. Her voice and song are singular not exactly bred from the Ramones and Ronettes, but certainly compatible, of a complimentary angle. Who is that? Mirah.” This is a short excerpt taken from the liner notes of The Old Days Feeling. K Records founder, Calvin Johnson recalls initial encounters with Mirah, setting the stage for which much of these songs originate.
This collection comes from a variety of sources, home recordings, hard to find foreign compilations, out-of-print releases, alternate versions or previously unreleased tracks. Mirah is aided by a slew of friends on these songs including Phil Elverum (Microphones/Mt. Eerie), Karl Blau and Calvin Johnson. Coupled by her unmistakable voice, these lo-fi, experimental recordings are indicative of what has become Mirah's distinct sound.
“Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn has been at the heart of the vibrant independent music scene since her debut album and has been pushing the boundaries of indie-rock ever since.” (Brooklyn Vegan)
“a voice so full of innocence and genuineness that you can’t imagine wanting to hear these stories from anyone else.” (tinymixtapes)
“an intimate voice in song that remains a bit cool and matter of fact, producing a trick of perspective in bringing introspection into larger scope” (kevchino.com)
