Dawnbreed
Luxus 7"

stickfigure 001

01. Astronaut [MP3:(full song)]
02. Rollercoaster

Hailing from Germany, Dawnbreed provide the listener with two of their final songs of mature rock. As Bottlenekk described them, Dawnbreed sound like the bastard son of Blonde Redhead, Monorchid and the Jesus Lizard. Dawnbreed was officially put to rest, but the band continues on as Monochrome. This 7" was recorded in May of 1997. Out Of Print.

13. No Time For Revolution, Just Execution

Finally, after a delay of over a year, "abracadaver" has been repressed on cd. The repress has been repackaged in a jewel caseand remastered so this version is definitely improved over the previousversion. For those who are not familiar with the party of helicopters, their second full length "mt forever"; made spin magazine's top 10 records ofthe year in 2000, and their new 2xcd is coming out soon on troubleman. Asfor what the party of helicopters sound like, "abracadaver" is the fulllength that started paving the way for their moterhead/black metalinfluenced brand of in your face rock and roll. "Abracadaver" was recorded and originally released in 1997.

Death Of Marat
All Eyes Open - CD

stickfigure 006

tracks:
01.Science Vs. Sorcery [MP3s:(
full song)]
02. All Eyes Open
03. The Cats Meow
04. Isolation DH-9
05. Heart
06. Snake Oil Merchant
07. 3 3/4 stars
08. Apollo Liftoff
09. Audition
10. Darkroom

Death Of Marat - Unwound covers Joy Division - a strange but concise description for the Phoenix based three-piece, Death of Marat. Members John Brandon, Mike Juliano and Jef Wright construct a delicate balance of modern off-kilter musicianship, smoothly blending it with the early Goth and New Wave sounds of The Birthday Party and Bauhaus. The trio's sophomore release, "All Eyes Open", delivers 27 minutes of dark, introspective post hardcore. "All Eyes Open" walks a fine line of frustration and urgency, contrasting catchy hooks and pop melodies with arty noise and sober moods. Death of Marat create well-structured dark pop that conveys an originality all its own. Formed in 1997 under the name Mars Observer Mission, Juliano and Wright originally started as a two-piece, releasing their first split 7" with Sea of Cortez. Brandon joined the group in 1998, and soon after the three released their self-titled 7". Death of Marat also appears on a split 7" with Half Visconte and on two local Phoenix compilations: "Libations Unlimited" and "Not One Red Light". Their debut album, "The Shattered", was released on Satellite Transmissions in July of 2000. "All Eyes Open" was recorded and released in 2002. Out Of Print.

Portrait

stickfigure 008

tracks:
01.All My Chances [MP3s:(
full song)]
02. Junction at Barcelona
03. Less Sugar

The final three portrait songs are available on this 7”. Atlanta’s Portrait recorded these three tracks before portrait decided to call it quits in mid 2001. These three tracks are definitely their most mature and best songs. Very good melodic screamy hardcore that will appeal to fans of portrait, as well as saetia. Recorded in June 2001. Members now serve time in Airoes, Electrosleep International and The Gates of Berlin. Currently Out Of Print.

15. Out of the Middle
16. Silver Line

Hailing from somewhere in between the mountains of Virginia and the city bustle of Philadelphia, Christopher R. Coello (better known as .you.) creates sounds for the analog ear in the digital year. Consistently eluding the traffic jam of laptop junkies in the electronic music realm, .you. takes it all back to the power of the home multitracker and the aesthetic thrill of live performance. Influenced by deaths, malfunctions, breakups, breakdowns and breakbeats .you.'s debut album "i am you" calls forth everything from IDM to downtempo to electro to glitch to experimental to whatever aptly named cliche that is flooding the market these days-- all through an ambient scope. Completely free of computerized sampling and manipulating, "i am you" was recorded entirely on an 8 track using a veritable aresenal of analog synthesizers and drum machines. The end result??? 64 minutes of diverse electronic music suitable for dancing, thinking, driving, sleeping, living. File under electronic between Aphex Twin and Z. Chris was a former member of providence union. .you. was known as airmail as well. Recorded during the Summer of 2003.

Coulier "call and response" 7"

stickfigure 010

1. Call and Response
2. Fuck Fuck Fuck [MP3: (
full song)]

Coulier (pronounced coo-le-ay) are a relatively new (circa 2004) band from athen’s, georgia. Featuring Navid (from camaro crotch) on drums and Steven (I would set myself on fire for you) on bass. The two tracks presented on this debut 7” showcase coulier’s angular, melodic screamy hardcore style. Harkening to such older bands as ordination of aaron, early lifetime and early braid, coulier give the listener two tracks of melodic and catchy songs. Recorded september of 2003.

Thoroughbred "s/t" 7"

stickfigure 012

tracks:
01. Levis Song [MP3: (
full song)]
02. Fire Came Down

This is the debut single by local Atlanta “supergroup” thoroughbred.  Thoroughbred features craig Dempsey (the forty-two, at the price of the union and the weight) on guitar/vocals, luke gilbert (at the price of the union) on bass/vocals and Kelsey Wilson (the weight) on drums.  Sonicly, thoroughbred are hands down the loudest band in the atl. having garnered numerous sound complaints when performing.  As for the music, think heavy and thick!  Thoroughbred take the song writing of early 90’s DC bands as hoover and use that style to write heavy southern rock tunes.  Think hoover covering southern rock anthems! Recorded during Fall of 2003.
   Good.

The Blessed "again, with hate" 7"

stickfigure 013

tracks:
01. Again, With Hate [MP3: (
full song)]
02. Lazo Dorado

Rising from the ashes of Read Palms (who disbanded late spring of 2003) the Blessed are a four-headed rock and roll implosion from the stagnant swamp that is Wilmington, North Carolina.  The blessed are a ray of sunshine falling on both  Zombies and Stooges, the Shangri-las in drag singing Son House songs with Leonard Cohen and Otis Redding, a third eye dripping with rotten Cream and the cherry red blood of Groundhogs.  The Blessed brew a night tripper’s love potion of hatred and ecstasy, shaking down the line between the shadows cast on the windows of childhood and the dying whimper of conscious thought.  Two songs are present on this 7”. The Blessed are relocating to Boston. This 7" was recorded during Late Winter of 2004.

Spiritworld "soul...sold it" 7"

stickfigure 015

tracks:
01. Soul..Sold It [MP3:(
full song)]
02. Cherry

NYC’s spiritworld are a four piece that originally formed in Atlanta, ga. Spiritworld made the move to NYC in order to increase their profile. Spiritworld originally formed in 2002. The two songs on this 7” accurately display spiritworld’s fierce in your face raw but tight punkish rock and roll stylings. Drawing upon such wide ranging influences as refused, at the drive in, guns and roses and the new york dolls, spiritworld succeed in crafting a unique raw but still deadly and sleek rock sound. The title track “soul…sold it” totally captures the listener with it’s catchy grooves and tongue in cheek lyrics – “it’s only rock n roll if it is out of control” – “we can’t die young because we have records to sell” which are screamed with complete passion. The b-side “cherry” delivers where the vast majority of b-sides on most singles fail. “cherry” showcases a darker/experimental side of spiritworld which definitely showcases such influences as refused and at the drive in, whereas “soul…sold it” is a more straight forward rock track.

Electrosleep International "anthology volume one" CD

stickfigure 016

09. Straight-laced With Arsenic
10. Last Chance, Split-Second Save / FESICAvsEQ
11. (Cain Tuck)
12. The Great Tomorrowland Famine [MP3:(
full song)]

Electrosleep International formed during 1999 and are based within Atlanta, georgia. This cd documents all of Electrosleep's recorded material during the time period of 1999-2002. Due to drummer Nathan Ivey departing the band in 2002 there was a brief hiatus until 2003 when the replacement drummer Jeph Burgoon (portrait, airoes, the kossabone red) joined. Electrosleep are definately one of atlanta's better kept secrets. Musically electrosleep assault and dazzle the listener with dueling guitars, cascading keyboards and manic vocals. With such song titles as “our fates were sealed the day the word party became a verb” you know this is good. Critics will claim that electrosleep are copying such bands as hot hot heat and the red light sting. However, one needs to remember that electrosleep had written the vast majority of this material by early 2000, before any of the aforementioned bands even existed. Keep in mind that most releases of Atlanta bands take years to be released. And finally, electrosleep international are still a VERY ACTIVE band. This cd was released Fall of 2004.

12. I'm Down with Brown Town [MP3:(
full song)]

somewhere between grindcore and cock rock, irony and sincerity, brute strength and smart-ass charm is coulier. After a year and a half of line-up changes and a significant creative shift, Athens, georgia’s most over the top power trio presents to the public their debut full length. Unafraid to pay homage to their guitar hero roots, dueling guitarists adam newman and brion kennedy rarely shy from an opportunity to engage in an Iron Maiden style harmony or a squealing pinch harmonic. Drummer Navid Amlani (ex camaro crotch!) keeps the the duo grounded with a furious mix of rhythms ranging from heavy to heavier. The whole mix is tempered with a liberal smattering of jarring time changes and dizzyingly mathy breakdowns. Vocals for the most part have been abandoned because they would have gotten in the way. Released in January 2005.

Camaro Crotch discography 3xlp picture disc

stickfigure discography 003

There are twelve tracks present on this recording.

[MP3: (full song)]

Rising out of the suburbs of cobb county, georgia like a phoenix, camaro crotch attacked the atlanta hardcore scene during the summer of 2002. Featured on this 3xlp picture disc is the audio testament for the chaos wrecked by camaro crotch. All told, there is two live shows and one demo present here which showcases camaro crotch's mixture of modern screamo with mid ninties melody, complete with high pitched insane chicken squack vocals. Camaro crotch as a band truly did not care what "the scenesters" thought and just went ahead and shredded everything in their path. Limited to 100 copies! Trust us, you have to see this record to believe it!!! All material recorded during the summer of 2002. Members now serve time in SIDS and Blame Game. Out Of Print.

Wheeljack/ Year Zero
Burn for Two split 7"

stickfigure .01
a split with Terminus records

Wheeljack:
01. Drive For Four Speed For Two
02. The Sugar Push

Year Zero:
01. Raised by Flies [MP3s:(full song)]
02. Burn Unlimited

This record features two complimentary bands. Wheeljack were a relatively unknown five piece with a haphazard but agressive style and work ethic. Their uptempo music and unusual song structures won them a loyal Atlanta following. Keith Moonish drumming and angular guitar sounds with atonal keyboards and bitter vocals. Year Zero was a heavy four piece that played moody, dynamic songs. Recorded in 1995.

Cerberus Shoal

01. Falling To Pieces Part One
02. Broken Springs Spring Forth From Broken Clocks
03. J.B.O. vs. Blin
04. Make Winter A Driving Song
05. Falling To Pieces Part Two

"And Farewell To High Tide" is the first Cerberus Shoal CD. This Cd is very different from their first 12" which was very emo, similar to Still Life. On this record Cerberus Shoal started pioneering their atmospheric rock sound which has become very popular. "And Farewell To High Tide" was originally released as a split label release between Stickfigure and Tree records. The first pressing sold extremely well and Tree repressed the CD by itself. since then Cerberus Shoal and Tree records have parted ways and the CD has since been repressed on Cerberus Shoal's own label, Stella White records. Recorded during 1995/1996. Out Of Print.

Hailing from Los Angeles, these transplants from Colorado have created a masterpeace of sound and chaos. T Tauri provide the listener with a very thick sound which is both intricate and heavy. Drawing from influences from no wave to Unwound, T Tauri successfully combine many diverse elements to produce a record that is ground breaking and still rocks. Recorded during 1996. Out Of Print

02. Kulture Kampf [MP3s:(full song)]
03. Metacomet
04. Circumstantial Gravity
05. The Breeze
06. Eunuch Intelligentsia
07. We Sailed at Dawn
08. Iscandar

Wheeljack did not exist at the time of this release. Most of this record was recorded at the end of the summer of '97, around the same time as their last show. When Wheeljack formed in November of '94, the whole San Diego thing had not caught up with them yet. Despite the fact that they had yet to hear Swing Kids or Antioch Arrow or any shit like that, they played in a similar fashion. A year later they added a keyboard player. Again this was before the the VSS, or even Gems Of Masochism. They did the nice clothes thing too. Anyway, to make a long story short, the point is that there are lots of good bands who were doing the whole "tightpants hardcore" thing before it became a standard, a lot of them weren't anywhere near San Diego and weren't on labels that begin with the letter G. Seeing as how this record came out a year and a half too late, it is not meant to be some sort of hip new release. Think of it more as a document of a band that did not get all of the attention they deserved, mainly due to the fact that they were from Atlanta, Georgia, instead of the west coast or something like that... Recorded Fall of 1997. Members now play in Electrosleep International. Out Of Print.

SIDS "kandy kane" 7"

stickfigure .14

Split Label Release with Army Of Bad Luck Recordings

1. Kandy Kane [MP3: (
full song)]
2. Moira Mathematics
3. Space Ranger In A Manger

"S.I.D.S is one of those bands the listener will always try to deconstruct. Even though this tendency is supremely recognizable and predictable (especially among the relatively literate crowd of homespun musicologists that populate the areas where S.I.D.S. is most likely to find an audience) since this piece of writing you’re reading is, in all honesty, a piece of MARKETING that is designed and distributed in order to get you to BUY, WRITE or SELL a new recording then this writer really has no choice but to attempt some sort of explanation of what we’re talking about. In the strictest sense of musical lineage, S.I.D.S. owes a debt, in varying degrees, to Devo, Throbbing Gristle, D.N.A. and Kraftwerk. These comparisons serve only minimally, though, as it must be understood that S.I.D.S. music, if not it’s psyche altogether, is informed not by the run down, industrial design of Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald Casale’s Akron, OH but the shiny, hyper-realized modernity of Atlanta, GA. And, yeah, that makes a difference. As much as one can hear the primal reaction to a speedy and emotionally neutral culture there is an underlying sense of confusion and desperation as if to say “No human can keep up with this.” That’s really the essence of S.I.D.S. music and is why the lyrics, none of which are discernible in the first place, necessarily take second place to the tunes themselves. The tracks on this record send their message the same way a madman gets his point across when lashing out at someone or punching someone in the jaw. No words need be exchanged, but the point has been made nonetheless even if victim and perpetrator don’t agree on the point that has been made. Ultimately, S.I.D.S. is going to have their say and the importance is on their saying it, not your understanding it. The purpose is expression, not communication. Don’t be fooled, wither, by the attractiveness of the record itself or it’s “peppermint” scented sleeve. Yeah, they might tell you it’s peppermint, but after knowing S.I.D.S. for a good while now I can assure you it’s just as likely blood and Maalox." - Gordon Lamb Each 7” also features a free enhanced cd-r with the digital versions of the songs.

8. Untitled #8

The squares were an Atlanta based band that existed during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. This self titled eight song cd was their magnus opus. The squares successfully blended the musical sounds of slint and man or astroman. Yet another underrated Atlanta band.

5. We're Motherfucking Coulier! [MP3: (

6. Success Lives Here
7. Halibut

In Coulier's world, each night ends in king-sized beds with gold satin sheets. Their bodies are caressed by millions of tiny visco-elastic memory cells (originally developed by NASA, but put to tests even the Swedish could never have envisioned) and lustfully romped with perfect human resonance. Each day begins where the previous day ended; there's an overflowing bowl of Grapenuts on the bedstand, one spoon for him and one for her. The work days are short, never lasting more than a few minutes, and every drive home ends with the same fiery auto crash at the bottom of a canyon. On some days, they are saved by their parachute packs. On others, they dive gracefully out of their speeding autos at the last second, just moments before their car flies off the edge. On the most memorable Coulier days, Adam Newman (guitar), Brion Kennedy (guitar), and Navid Amlani (drums) stay buckled up, straight to the bottom of the canyon, being saved only by an arbitrary plot twist in the story. True to their world, Coulier's music delivers in peaks and valleys, sharp juxtapositions and acutely aware self-indulgence. Thus is “Vibin'”. Released in February 2006.

recorded live on WREK 91.1 FM in December of 2002, this six song (sixty plus minutes) cd-r is a document of Atlanta based go back to Europe.  Go back to Europe are a duo that utilizes guitars and electronics.  Sounding like the bastard child of autechre and sleepy time trio, go back to Europe create epic – eight to ten minute – sonic noise collage jams that feature guitar riffage over a wall of electronic noise. OUT OF PRINT.

the perpetual sciamachy theorem were a band that existed in atlanta, ga from 1996 to 1997.  This cd-r is eight tracks, six of which were recorded live on 91.1 WREK (www.wrek.org), and the other two were recorded with a four track.  Both recordings were made in 1997.  the Perpetual Sciamachy Theorem dazzled audiences with blazing songs which were definitely the bastard child of angel hail, mohinder, huggy bear, Antioch arrow and more.  Vocalist Josh Fauver now plays guitar/keyboards in electrosleep international, bass in deer hunter and is the drummer/keyboardist for SIDS.  Drummer Eric Mohr served time in otophobia and is now in endless nightmare.  This cd-r is probably essential for those who are searching for “lost artifacts” of early to mid 90’s spazzy chaotic emotive punk rock/hardcore.

mr. mips is james b. parker.  James is a local Atlanta electronic artist who unfortunately has been toiling in obscurity for too long.  Parker has been actively involved in creating electronic music for over a decade.  “action shot” is a collection of eighteen tracks of Parker’s excellent lap top created electronica.  All of the material was recorded and produced in the early 2000’s.  “action shot” provides the listener with dark, soothing electronica which will definitely appeal to fans of boards of Canada, kraftwerk, autechre, Richard devine and prefuse 73.  However “action shot” definitely provides a fresh view on what the listed artists have accomplished. Released in January 2005.

Lookout America, Vim Viggins and his Super Fabulous Remixotron5000 will be hitting the airwaves near you!  All told there are forty tracks which combine for less then twenty minutes of crazed electro remixed insanity.  This cd-r is guaranteed to get a response from anybody who listens to it. Bigpenguin
"Ass Ramming Rhythms" CD-R

stickfigure cdr25

01. Dot Yer Eyes
02. Trickery To Gain A Meal [MP3: (sample)]
03. Killed By A Bitch
04. Love Is Madness

Atlanta’s big penguin are a new band that pummels listeners with their ruins influenced noise hybrids. All told there are four tracks of their heavy jams complete with crazed vocals. “Bigpenguin might best be described as a wacky, erratic, avant-punk/thrash metal band with an insatiable appetite for depravity. Like many of their influences, bigpenguin eludes genre categorization. The core band of Ace Spectacular (drums) and Bucky Love (bass) defecates choppy, rhythmic arrangements layered with a mostly lyric-free vocal style. Jonny Danger (Spectacular’s ex husband) adds the grace and finesse of a classic Jackie O., utilizing percussion, keys, samples and the occasional party toy. Bigpenguin’s sound is reminiscent of your best friend’s reaction after walking in on you having sex with their grandma.” Released in September of 2005. Out Of Print.

The Rigmas
s/t CD-R

stickfigure cdr26

01. Particle Love
02. The Robot Song
03. Crown and Coke
04. Bad Birthday
05. Sunday Morning
06. Son of Suwanee
07. Paper Bifocals [MP3: (sample)]

The rigma’s existed for a very brief period, May 2005 until August 2005. Featuring Leslie (formerly of the Black Aux), Darrell, Jean, Shimby and Victor, the rigma’s wooed audiences with their excellent well played catchy dancy melodic rock tunes. Utilizing keyboards, bass, guitar, drums and Leslie on vocals the rigma’s always got the crowd shaking their booty to the rigma’s more modern indie rock do-wop sound. Imagine do-wop reinvented by kids who listened to the pixies, rolling stones, sonic youth, and gang of four. The result is an extremely catchy but serious sound. With the departure of their drummer to upstate new york for grad school the band ended as quickly as it was formed. Of course that is what made the rigma’s good – rather then try to please people the rigma’s were just playing to have fun. Released in October of 2005.
